BHUTAN: PILLAR OF SPIRIT 2017-12-05T09:51:31+00:00

Project Description

PILLAR OF FREEDOM: EXHIBITION

Bhutan has remained for centuries largely untouched by contemporary society. Embedded in pinnacle mountains and cared for by a benevolent monarchy that act as wise and compassionate gatekeepers, the landlocked nation reverberates with timeless dignity, Buddhist traditions—and increasingly, the creeping vestiges of Western visitors.

PILLAR OF SPIRIT the exhibition explores the living history of Bhutan in the face of modernity swiftly impacting its borders. Containing 35 compelling sepia toned images with accompanying informative captions, this extraordinary exhibition includes a message from Her Majesty the Queen Mother of Bhutan and introductory notes from Robert Thurman and JeyTsong Khapa.

The statistics at the right reflect the amazing accomplishments of our partners at Her Majesty’s Bhutan Youth Development Fund. Profits from PILLAR OF SPIRIT go to help continue this amazing work in Bhutan.

“We are honored to partner with photographer Lisa Kristine and her exhibition… After seeing her photography and the exhibition images, we were touched by the sensitivity of recording the lives of our people. We are delighted to collaborate on bringing Pillar of Spirit to the outside world, exemplifying Bhutan’s unique traditions.”

BECOME A PILLAR OF SPIRIT

It is generally recognized that we must continually work towards the establishment and protection of universal human rights, however the need to incorporate the myriad of cultural values into the human rights structure is still in its infancy. Help us to do preserve the human dignity of the people of Bhutan, and of all cultures.
