SHINE A LIGHT – TAKE THE CHALLENGE!
More than 40 million people globally are the victims of modern slavery, it is a 150 billion dollar a year industry. In accordance with Target 8.7 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Human Thread Foundation is working to drive awareness about, and to help eradicate, forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labour.
The Human Thread Foundation is thrilled to launch the Shine A Light challenge with our partner, World Merit. The youth of World Merit are focused on improving their communities, and the Shine A Light challenge is an opportunity for World Merit councils to do something to shine a light on modern slavery in those communities.
There are three key elements to consider when taking on this challenge:
What can YOU do to make a difference? World Merit youth will be putting their ideas into action and all of those ideas will be considered based on the categories above. Prizes include internships and jobs at partner organizations and companies, and winners will be announced in September 2018.

And with the help of my translator I told the people I was photographing that I would illuminate their stories and their plight…I hope these images will awaken a force in people who view them. People like you. I hope that force will ignite a fire and that fire will shine a light on slavery. For without that light, the beast of bondage will continue to live in the shadows.”
WHY I DO THIS WORK
The work is an invitation for all people to come together. For us all to see one another as our fellow brothers and sisters… Life is not just about ourselves. It’s about all of us. We are the community of humanity.
